What does self-custody mean and why does it matter?

"Not your keys, not your coins." Leaving your Bitcoin on an exchange means trusting a third party. Self-custody means you are the only one in control — with everything that comes with it.

What we set up and go through together:

  • Selecting & setting up a hardware wallet (Ledger, Trezor, Coldcard and others)
  • Safely creating, writing down & storing your seed phrase long-term
  • Transferring coins from an exchange into your own wallet
  • Backup verification & recovery test (without real coins)
  • Understanding the passphrase option (25th word) and weighing the trade-offs
  • Day-to-day security best practices
On-site recommended — the hardware wallet should be physically present for setup. Remote sessions are possible for consultation and preparation; the actual setup ideally happens in person.

  • On-site or remote (consultation & preparation)
  • Device-agnostic — I don't favour any particular brand
  • Your seed phrase stays private — I never see it
  • Follow-up questions by message included
